Getting to know the pottery wheel
We’ll learn the basics of using a pottery wheel and explore how to position our hands and bodies while working with clay.

Centering the clay
With guidance from the instructor, we’ll place the clay on the wheel and practise centering it. We’ll focus on feeling the clay turn and coordinating the movement of our hands.

Creating a cylinder
Once the clay is centered, we’ll open it up and try raising the walls to create a basic cylinder. We can start again and repeat the movements as often as needed.

Reflection and clean-up
We’ll reflect on the experience together and tidy our workspaces.

The aim of this one-off workshop is to experience the pottery wheel and get to know its basic movements, rather than to make a finished piece. No previous ceramics experience is needed; you can progress at your own pace.

• If you cancel at least 7 days before the workshop begins, you will receive a full refund.
• If you let us know that you cannot attend less than 7 days but at least 48 hours before the workshop begins, you may use the amount paid towards another daily workshop taking place within one month of the original workshop date. Refunds are not available during this period.
• If you cancel less than 48 hours before the workshop begins, no refund or transfer to another workshop is available.
• If Dot cancels the workshop, you may choose a full refund or a transfer to another suitable workshop.
